I remember a time back during my Team, Management, and Leadership days where I had to wear the RED BADGE OF NO SIGNIFICANCE. Those of you who were with me on Team then might remember how much fun we had in those quarters where lighthearted playfulness was the coin of the realm. I remember Carol H. who coined the phrase “Woohoo! What Next!” and she took my lead into the next quarter as Team Leader carrying on the playfulness and the productivity that accompanied.
We had so much fun – times like in Miami when I left my cell phone home, got stuck in Cincinnati for 12 hours, and had to have a scary late night ride down to the Keys to meet up with Kim, Abby, Karen and Brad. I learned a lot about significance then. I have a new perspective on it now. What worked then was the playfulness. What I know now is that that playfulness is authentic being no matter which human embeds in the bag of skin and bones.
People want playfulness, people like people who are playful, even mischievous or naughty. That is where I want to be. Stretching outside my comfort zone and being curious, playful, and a bit mischievous. And this was just a reminder about significance clogging our energy flow, our view of life, our ability to be present to the opportunities that are the gifts we get from the universe every minute.
